Default water temp display

hello,
excuse me for my english because i'm french ...then sorry for my grammaticals mistakes !
i have a probleme with my 84 !
my engine water temp is normal but the temperature who is diplay on cluster is curious !!

when my engine fan engage ,the temp on dash is 140 °F ( my fan sender in passenger motor side is new :180 °F with a new thermostat 160°F.)
the sender in driver side give 4K ohms at 20°C and i checked the wire ( brown ???)
but when i accelerate quickly the display temp is very hot quickly...if i stop accelerate the display is low !....

and when i disconnect the sender wire the temp reading is not low ....but between 140° to 160 °C....

I replaced the engine coolant sensor at the front of the engine under the intake.( with 2 wires) by precautions but...i have again the problem ..

have you an idea for me please .

It sounds like the fan switch in the passenger side, is not what you ordered. The fan should come on at the 180*F it is rated at.

The temperature gauge sending unit is on the passanger side. With the wire disconnected the gauge should read it's highest temp. If you ground that wire, to gauge should tead "LOW". You may have a temporary short in that wire from the sender to the gauge that is affected by acceleration.

The sender in the front of the intake manifold is only for the ECM and the running of the engine. It has nothing to do with the fan or the dash gauge.

What does it say, disconnected? Did I get it backward?
