Default 86 Stock TPI -vs- Super-Ram

I've gotten pretty good at getting the stock TPI runners & plenum on & off. How's the Super-Ram to get on & off? I'm basically trying to decide between long tube runners / ported plenum and the Super-Ram set-up. (I've got a Big Mouth manifold on now).

I'm just curious if you have to take off the fuel rail to remove the runners?

If you've done it more than once it is easy. As long as the threads are clean it isn't nearly the nightmare people make it out to be.

Do you have an auto or a stick.
I think if memory severs me correcly the long runner work better with a stick....

If you havn't looked at S/R thats apart. The bolts from the runners to the plenum looks like real fun...

The inner our outer ones? The outer ones aren't bad. The inner ones you can do like my setup has and change it so that the bolts go in through the top instead.

go out and get a long, T handle allen wrench to install the runner bolts. works like a charm and well worth it. Runner bolts are easy, be sure to place the correct runner on the correct side. They are different even if they both bolt up to either side. Don't ask me how i know...The plenum bolts are the pain.

Sorry I don't have any. The threads are drilled out of the plenum box and then new threads cut into the inner bolt holes of the runners allowing you to thread them in from the top down.

Scorp - Long tubes for the stick? (Save me a couple of hundred bucks). I rarely run the RPM's above 5k.

Ouch, don't put me on the spot like that. In any situation where I am given the choice of SR or Stock I'd go with the SR. Do you not go over 5k now because you don't want to or due to the fact that a stock TPI dies at 4200? My engine pulls hard to 6000 so being well over 5000 is a daily experience. It all depends on what you want out of your own car.

A superram vs aftermarket long tube runners will give you ~3 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Not to mention having a pizza warmer in the pit lanes is handy as all hell!

Scorp, what did you use on the inners? Some kind of button head screws and locktite? Did you caulk under the screw heads? I'm guessing you just did the center two, not the ones on the ends, right?

Mike In Boston owned this SR before me and is the one that did the modifications. I use regular ole' hex head bolts and red loctite on the threads and under the heads. So far I have never had one come loose. <crosses fingers>

Do you SR users find vacuum leaks/maintenance an issue with these? Or are they an install it and forget it type deal?
