I've just replaced the ps rack in my 86 Vette. Several people, inlcuding the instructinons with the new rack, recommend installing a power steering fluid filter. Seems like a nice inexpensive, easy preventative measure.
Anyone done this and know where I can get one and the part # ?
I've done this to several of my cars, including my '92 Corvette.
I've been very happy with the results.
It is a Honda in-line automatic transmission filter for 1980 to 1993 Civic, Accord, or Preludes.
The Car Quest auto parts store part number is: 85953
It has fittings for a 3/8" hose on both ends, and that is the size of the return line on most power steering systems -- make sure you put it in the correct direction for fluid flow.
My Lincoln TownCar gets lots of miles and I change it once a year with no problems.
I have never lost another power steering pump or gear assembly since I started using them.
I wish I had done it several years ago.

On my '92, it is on the return hose going from the power steering cooler to the power steering reservoir.
The best practice is to put it as close to the reservoir as possible on the return hose.
