Default I'm a idiot, and need some help.... [Door Locks]

I noticed when I went out to my car tonight that when I opened the door, the interior light didn't come on. When I got to my destionation, the light didn't come on then either, and I was curious as to why, as its never happened before.

Now the fun begins.

Like an idiot, I touched the actual lock mechanism, the "finger", the actual door lock, to see if its rotation told the car if the door was open. I pushed it slightly, and it went to its closed position.

Now I can't get it back open!!!

The door won't close now, since the lock is closed and it cannot go around the door lock striker.

How do you manually reset the lock? Working the locks doesn't change the door lock location, but I can hear stuff moving in the door.

Pull on the door handle and at the same time, use a screwdriver to push in the small space still visible between the locking mechanims and the door and press it outwards to the unlock position. Should slide back into place. I do it all the time just for the heck of it.

Haha, I've done that. Just pull up on the handle and pull a screwdriver or something out on the latch mechanism to open it to it's accepting position.

Holy crap we posted at the exact same time, that wasn't above when I wrote this.

Haha, TOO SLOW, ALLT4. I got here first with the solution! That's what happens when you live on the forums.

Thanks guys, both of you!

I got it.

I sure did feel like an idiot in the parking lot. I tried using a wrench to push the lock open, but I never thought of pulling on the door handle at the same time.

Haha, yeah you better. And he was your fellow LT-4 owner. How are you gonna let a TPI junkie like me interfere?

Ahhh, don't feel bad the first time I did this I kept slamming the door into the strike expecting some kind of magic to happen making everything good again. Does make you feel kind of stupid.

Think about how it works..

That latch shuts when you push the door shut. When you open the door, you do it by lifting the handle and pulling, thats when the latch gets pulled open also.

So if you latch it manually, it thinks its shut.

Anyways, it's a good thing, otherwise you'd be able to open the door while driving just by pushing against it.
