Default I need a new camshaft...

Not just this second, but I'm told mine is "pitted" where it meets the number 7 lifter - and that's why my lifter wore out and needed to be replaced. I opted not to replace the cam with another stock, thinking this might be an opportunity for nice performance upgrade.

I understand there are performance cam shafts, but I am wondering what exactly makes them "performance." Also, any particular recommendations?

Thanks.

Oh, yeah. 1996 LT4.

I didn't mind Waco when I moved here 2 years ago, now I'm begging the Air Force to send me to San Antonio.

The GM Lt-4 hotcam would be a good performance upgrade and would be the least amount of trouble on an LT-4.
