When I turn the headlamps on, the right hand (passenger) headlamp operates normally, but the motor continues to run for about four seconds after it is in the "up" position. Turn 'em off and the headlamp goes down ok, but again the motor on this side continues to run.
If I disconnect the battery (lights off), on reconnection the motor runs for four seconds or so again. The light stays down as it should.
Is this the infamous bushing problem, or a relay, or what?
Assuming 89's are the same as my 90s then I would guess that the bushings are shot.
I believe there is a tech tip for this problem. I used that and bought the bushings from Lowes for a lot less than the mail order guys. The bushings were 1/2 x .194 x 1/2 nylon. They are kinda tight but work fine. These are also available at Home Depot.
I fixed my 92's last summer using Home Depot bushings. The parts number is 596609. You'll need 3 packs of 2 each for a total of 6 to do both headlights.
The UPC code on the package is 30699 87278. Total cost locally was $2.07 plus tax. Much cheaper than Eckler's or MAD and mine have worked fine ever since. Good luck.
