Thanks, those were the 2 choices I have narrowed down to. The nittos only come in 245/50 for the 16s. I like the 255s better, which is what bfg, and MT have.
Does one wear faster than the other? I know they will all wear fast.
I have only used BFG DR's so I cannot compare. But I have excellent results with them (with 700R). One evening I tried both burnouts and no burnouts and 60-footers pretty much the same. My car made 1.85's. Get the air pressure right and you do not have to do burnouts (unless you have mongo power). That can really startle the testostrone swollen stud in the next lane who is blazing his tires in a monstor burnout and then you dust him when the lights drop. Life is good!
I have used 2 types. the M&H muscle car DOT tire 305-40-16, i went 1.61 with this tire and it drove great with not much movement in the rear of the car and did REAL good in the rain. I would recommend this tire to anyone looking for a 1.60 or slower 60'.
i now have the MT etstreet 26X11.5X16, i just went a 1.46 60' on that tire with very minimal burnout and 12 lbs. This tire even aired up really sways the back of the car around for normal driving and is terrible in the rain. The next set i will try is the MT street radial.
The MT street radial is awesome. They are softer than any other drag radial. Here in Hawaii, our track sucks for traction, yet all the people useing them are extremely happy. I highly recommend them , and I bet you will be very happy with them.
I run dr full time on my grand national and so far the laongest lasting ones are the nitto dr bfg did not give as many miles for me any way
just wanted to give my input as far as wear goes versus your pocket
i havent run any drs on my vette, as it is stock and slow. i have however run nitto drs bfg drs and currently run the m/t drs. wow. hugh difference. the nittos worked ok the bfgs only would hook decently, and the m/ts just kick ***.
the car i run them on is a 71 462 powered trans am.--lots and lots of torque. i cant report any 60 foots yet as im dialing the new rear suspension in, but prior to the suspension change, on the STREET, with 32 psi, they hooked like nothing ive ever felt on the street.
also, i got mine through jegs, then had them mounted at Americas tire store. they can get the tires directly from m/t and if you buy from them, you get there road hazard warranty and all that good stuff. also, they will beat summit or jegs prices. at least here in clovis they do.
I just put the Nitto DR's on today and they hook nice This is the first time I've been able to hook up in first gear with my car since getting my new motor in
I bought them on Admiral Blue's recomendation he's been running on them for a couple years. Because they actually have a decent tread pattern they're drivable on the street and in the rain unlike some other brands.
I've only had my MT drag radials for a short while now. From what I've seen so far and the positive remarks I hear others say about them I think you'd be hard pressed to find a stickier drag radial. I've run Nittos and BFGs and they don't come close to comparing (at least on my car). Can't say for sure yet, but I'm guessing that means they're not gonna last all that long.

I fully agree with this. At the track the other night I felt a few of these tires, and they are by far stickier than any drag radial on the market. They are even softer than my 17" versions of MT ET Streets.

I know from personal experience and from concensus that Nittos are hard to beat for an all purpose tire when exceptional forward traction is needed. On the rear, I really couldn't tell the difference over standard street performance tires in handling. At auto-X, they were killer with treaded race tires in the front. If extreme forward traction is needed, yes there are better. But for a tire you can use everyday, they can't be beat from what I've seen.
I don't have anything to compare them to as my new 17x11 Mickey Thompsons are my first drag radials. What I do know that after a visit to the track the other night, I don't see how anything could be better.
I made like 12-14 passes and got a 13.0 out of her once. This was with an 80 shot of N20 and a cold bottle at low pressure so I was pig rich. My bottle pressure switch was malfunctioning so it was keeping my bottle heater off.
Even so, I found that backing into the water box was definetly necessary to get a good long burnout without power breaking (I have no line lock). I refuse to power break and kill my differential.
After warming them up with a good burnout each time I was hooking like crazy. I just hope and pray my rear end can take it.
