Default Another Stroker Thread-383 Or More??

GUYS I NEED YOUR HELP! A CLOSE FRIEND JUST BOUGHT 69 CHEVELLE THAT HAS WENT 11.60 IN THE 1/4 BEFORE IT GOT TONED DOWN ALITTLE FOR STREET ABILITY. I NEED TO REMAIN COMPETITIVE- FOR ALL CORVETTE FOLLOWERS. I JUST GOT MY CAR BACK FROM THE SHOP WITH CNC'D STAGE III HEADS AND INTAKE. MY CAM IS COMP CAMS 268XFI HR-13. LOBE SEP IS 113, DURATION @ .050 IS 218/224. LIFT IS .570/.565. I HAVE FULL EM HEADERS/RANDOM TECH CATS AND CORSA CATBACK ALONG WITH K&N AND 52MM TB. I'M THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THE GEARS. WHAT DO I DO NEXT?? I'M STILL NOT IN THE LEAGUE OF THIS STROKED CHEVELLE. SO I FIGURED I ALSO MUST INCREASE CUBIC INCHES???

Keeping everything I already have- what would work best next?
How big can I realistically go? 383, 396, can you fit a 427 in a c4?
My next concern would be the cost effectiveness. Is a 396 that much better than the 383 per dollar vs. per horse & torque? Keep in mind that i'm not rich but if something is worth it you have to pay the price. I never have any intentions of turning my car into a full blown dragster like this chevelle is set up for, so drivability is of the upmost concern. All I want to do I show that I can remain competitive/run AC/ and drive every day if I want to.

You hit the nail on the head when you said he had to tone it down for streetability.

What's imortant to you? I'd throw a 100 shot on it and call it a day with my nice driver, but that's me. A well thought out 383 should do him in and still be manageable if you want to spend a few thou..... but then you gotta think transmission, rear end, u-joints, etc, etc.

Edit: Oh yeah........you can spend a boatload of money and kick your Bro's butt, but then guess what? One of your other Bros is gonna bring something quicker .........there's always something quicker........

Yeah I'm in the process of redoing the rear end- ensuring it gets beefed up for the extra power. The old chevelle is still very quick (only really changed the rear end and carb). I could care less if I beat him- I'm looking more at the 11.80-11.95 range for my car -tops!
So what size should it be stroked to?

You should be able to go that fast with the comb you have now.

It's not that different from mine.

There's guys running 400-427 cubes on the street that pass smog. Use a low compression, good cylinder head and conservative cam and your'e there.Just depends how much you want to spend. You can build a 406 for peanuts these days and make enough torque to blow the wheels right off the car.

Do a 383 and spray it. Your buddy will never know what hit him.

As far as max cubes go, you can do any SBC based engine. The largest I have seen is about 460 cubes, but I am sure there is bigger out there. For driveability I would say a 383 is the easiest to make into an honest daily driver.

As far as the cubic inches is concerned, Iwould do a 383, as it is generally cheaper compared to a 396. I have a 396 and I am sure it makes a decent amount of power, 400 plus rwhp( not yet dynoed since I put new cam in from Hot Cam). But a 383 is still a smokeing motor.

If I had the money to spare, I'd quit fooling around and go straight to a Bill Mitchell 454 CID small block.

As Reher and Morrison say, "There's no replacement for displacement".

So if I went with quality forged parts for a 383 and kept it on the conservative side for good driveability would it be enough for 11.80-11.95's??

With a HotCam and a simple 383 is a low 12 high 11 Vette with traction and appropriate gears etc,

Go with a forged 383 and put it under forced induction. If you do it right, you can be at 500-600 rwhp - more than enough to run 10's and still have a streetable car...

Does your forum name mean what it says, you have an LT4? If so you can't get the monster stroke these other guys are talking about. The biggest I've heard about is the 409 that SonnyinVa has.

But, a 383 stroker with the top end you have and 4.10 gears will get you into the mid 11s. If you concentrate on the traction and shock setup. And buy lots of spare parts to fix the rear end after you get the traction with that 6 speed.

Or, just ask him to do a 90-degree turn at the end. (i.e. Bring him to an autocross track.)

It doesn't seem like I can go wrong with a 383 for my needs. Where is the best place to buy forged stroker parts? Any brands I need to stay away from? thanks

There are some 421 LT1/4 motors out there. Very expensive stroker motors.
