try about 15-20 hours

Remember it goes all the way through the firewall, and to both sides behind the dash

Nope.

Which wiring harness underhood? The forward lighting harness or the engine harness? The C100 connector at the firewall separates using a 1/4" socket (I think that is the size - can verify if need be). The inside/dash harness and the underhood harness are three different components...all joined at the C100 connector behind the battery and brake booster.

I just replaced the underhood forward lighting harness and it was not a bad job.

Let me know which you need to replace.

If it is seperated from the Alternator, Starter/ Dash info harness down by the battery, I would guess you could put it back in @ an hour if you can reach the injectors easily.

I seperated my alternator etc from the ECM harness and it makes it a lot easier.

Take your distributor out for easy access to ground wires etc.

wow thanks for the correction. So there is a disconnect on the firewall that will allow you to remove the harness from the firewall out? I know the box is there, but I never really gave it much attention. I have a 89 in my garage with the motor out - so I will have to take a look at it and see what that will entail for a future project I am going to be working on.

Learn something new everyday

I am sure getting at it with the motor in the car will be fun, but with the removal of the distributer, it shouldn't be too bad.

i must be missing something. when i had my 89 down and tried to pull the harness out, it went through the firewall, but did not come apart at that bulhead connector. the only thing i could see that bulkhead piece doing was to provide a seal for the harness going through the firewall. my 86 that i am parting out is the same way.

That is what I figured that was there, but by the sounds of the guys above, maybe it is a connector.

The harness at the firewall (pass side) can't be separated as far as I know. Wish it could, though. Think they were referring to just the forward lamp harness on the drivers side.

This is 100% correct. I can assure you. I just pulled mine a couple months ago and last week put it back in. I was replacing the harness so out of curiousity and to make sure I got all that I needed I tore that seal apart(pass side). The wires go straight through to the dash wiring harness.

If you have the engine out (like I did) it takes about 15-20 minutes. I have no idea with it in but I would think you'd atleast have to pull the distributor because the harness runs in between the block and the firewall.

on the 90' they started doing this. disconnect 5 wires and 2 vacuum fittings, and the harness pulls out. should have done that from the beginning.
