I thought I'd ask this again, with a better subject line. Time is winding down, gotta soon make a decision.
Ok, mods in sig. 1990 L98. Approx. 380-400chp. As you see, N/A. Street use, daily driver. No track, road racing, or auto-X (nothing overtly planned anyway). So obviously wouldn't be spending life much above 5,000 rpms, other than to shift.
I just purchased a brand new AcDelco stock fuel pump. Should I be sending it back, and getting a "high volume" fuel pump? Or will the stock pump serve its purpose just fine? I'm getting opinions on both sides of the house.
If another fuel pump is necessary, please provide brand(s) and cheapest known source(s). Lets not blow up the bank account, I've already done that tenfold. I normally do this kind of research myself, but the perception of time to do this is less rather than more.
Brad, the aux pump I talked about in the im is in the $150 range. It included a slick bracket and relay and wiring. No holes to drill! Details provided if needed.
I will have to check the parts fiche, but I would think that whatever pump fed the ZR1 would feed your engine.
Bogus, I persued this option at one time. The last time I checked the sending unit with twin pumps for a zr1 listed for $1,200.00 Used with no guarantee was approx $400.
thanks for the help so far. i'm going to make some off-line queries about this as well.
i just never see much about this higher volume pumps on the forum, maybe i feel asleep in a giant hoagie. it appears that there are all kinds of folks here who jam up their engines 100hp+ and still use the stock pump.
Ask Tpis salesman jim or check Tpis website, stock pump will
support upto 450 hp but to be on safe side i bought higher one
which is $180 at tpis which suports upto 550 hp. If u have
still old stock pump why not pay a little extra and get the higher one for a cheap insurance. sami.
Summit has a Granatelli brand that puts out 255LPH for $125.88. Looks like it comes with sock etc. They also have an Accel for $299.95 that feeds 435 LBS per hour @ 45 psi. good for 870 HP.
I like all the items bundled in this kit for the given price, featuring the Walbro 340M, 255L/hr unit. The cost of this is only a few bucks more than the GM unit + sock.
Talked ad-nauseum about this with local corvette racer (owned 10 over the years).....there was absolutely NO question about this particular choice, a no-brainer
Will return the GM stuff & purchase this kit
Kudos to all for your interest & help, and one big one to Strike3 for leading me to this choice as well
