Default 1986 Transmission Leak

Hi, I have a 1986 Corvette that I store during the winter months. The other day while I was cleaning the garage I noticed a leak coming from the transmission. There is a circle of transmission fluid on the ground. I looked at the bottom of the transmission pan and noticed a drop of fluid hanging from the front of the pan. Does this seem like it is a pan gasket that needs replacement or could it be something else? Thanks

Could be a pan gasket, but those years the 700R4 was notorious for leaking out the seal for the converter in the front pump. Mine would leak small amounts at first, but eventually got real bad. Parked in the airport for about a day and a half and the fluid was running out from under the car!! Currently out waiting for rebuild. It's out and a pain to get out so might as well freshen it up, has 112K on it.

Is there anyway to tell if its the pan gasket or the seal aside from changing the pan gasket and then seeing if its still leaking? If it is the front seal, I assume the tranny has to come out correct? Thanks for the info.

Kind of have same problem, but just a couple drops.

You could pull the torque converter dust seal and know for sure if its the pump seal, or just check for the source of the fluid leak if its coming from above the pan gasket then its probably the pump seal.
