Rebuild a 700R4
Hello, I want to rebuild my own transmission. Has anyone done it and are there pictures. Does anyone know sites with information about rebuilding a 700r4?

Is the 700 your first trans to rebuild or have you done others? They 700r4 is about the toughest rear wheel drive tranny to do. It can be done though. You will need to purchase a few hundred dollars worth of tools. They are very difficult to find (borrow or rent). An ATSG service manual for the year you intend to do is a great starting point. 82-86 is one book. 87-92 is another. The green book is an upgrade book that describes the changes to each year an gm produced them.

I rebuilt mine with upgraded clutches,shell,servos, and a shift reprogrammer. It is time consuming, but can be done with some patience and some tools. I have very few pics. None that would help. Good luck...

I plan to do my own too when the miles and additional power inevitably take their toll. Yes, the ATSG (automatic transmission service group) manual is the way to go. It's what the pros use. Also if you want to build more beef into it there are many here who have already done it. I've got some good sites saved for this but they're on my good computer which is dead at the time being.

I bought a video and converted it from VHS to digital so I can step through it using my notebook while I am doing mine. At least that is the plan anyway. I got it on eBay for $29.
