Water Problems
1986 L98 K&N air filter short tube headers
Ok, first of all I know that I am going to hear about how bad I am for taking my car to a car wash, but living in an apartment I have little choice. I use the Laser Touchless Wash which uses high pressure rinse. (I need weather stripping now) Here is my problem, Every time I go through it (the car is stationary and a spray arm goes around the car) I have a problem keeping the car running when the wash is done. I tried going through with the car running hoping that the engine heat might keep the water out. The car starts but won't idle. It was running perfect before I ran it to the wash. I also noticed it has the symptom of burning quite rich with black smoke out the exhaust. If I keep the idle up I can drive the car but it ain't right. ANy help with a fix for this or what I should be looking for is appreciated.

Are they blowing water up into the air intake? The vet is a bottom breather and it could be wetting the filter causing air starvation... just a guess.
Pull your air filter and see how it idles (just don't drive much without the air filter).

The weatherstripping was shot on my 88 when I took it through a car wash. I had the same problem,I could not keep the car running and seemed like it was running rich. I found that the water came in the pass. side window and made its way the the ECM and damaged the chip.At the time I was not sure if it was damaged or not. I replaced the chip and car runs great. Something to think about.
