enigine wont idle
Yesterday I had to move the car(88 vert) first time this year, needless to say battery was flat. Had to boost from an optima from my shop. After a quick move I replaced the dead bat with the optima till I get a new one from the general. Since the change the car is hard to start and will nt idle without feeding it throttle. I guess my question to all is after I leave the bat un hooked all night will it return to norm with a fresh bat or do we have other issues. FYI the car has 14,300 miles on it. Any and all assitance would be a great help
thanks
Murray
When the battery went dead, the ECM lost it's memory, but that shouldn't have caused the problems you're experiencing. The engine should still be able to start and idle without much trouble.
I believe the cause of you starting problem lies elsewhere though.
One of design parameters of our engines is that they be brought up to operating temperature and, preferably, driven frequently. At the very least once a month. When this isn't done, all sorts of running problems can result.
If the engine has sat for a long period of time, I'd change the fuel filter and pump in fresh gasoline. I'd also pour in bottle of injector cleaner - Red Line is good - to HELP remove any gun deposits that may have formed.
If those two things don't cure the problem, we'll need to start looking at the electrical and mechanical ends.

Thanks for the help

Gee, and all these yrs. I've been using Sears Diehards-if and when I have idle problems-it's of to Sears
Sorry, just couldn't resist.Hey! thorsdad, Does it make a difference if it comes from a CHEVY dealer? Or will any GM dealer do? What if the dealer handles more than one brand of car? What about a multi-car dealer with a foreign brand? I can see where this could get very technical. Gotta do this right!
