............burn chips or customize bins for modded cars? I am going to be putting the 383 in and will probably need to have a new chip burned or a bin modified and I can burn it myself. If I knew what to change I would even do that myself. What information is needed when burning a chip? Just the engine specifics or a scan of the computer? This is an 85 that will receive the 383. Final configuration is not known at this time. It will also have to pass Ca. emissions.
OK, I will step up to the plate with a suggestion. The only mail chip that I have used "that worked properly" came from Alvin, at www.pcmforless.com I have had others who basically did nothing to the tuning tables and called it a custom chip I will leave it at "others" in the spirit of trying not to get this thread locked. If you need to know who not to go with E-mail me and I will give you details.
Depends on what computer you are using as to who I would recommend. My suggestion is to learn and do it yourself. It takes alot of time though. I have been sorting mine out for awhile (dont ask), steep learning curve. There are alot of helpful people here and TGO that are willing to help.

I will second this, email me as well and I'll give you an ugly story you won't believe. I'll tell you exactly who this person is, and it ain't no joke. Oh yeah, he's the MAIN reason I had to have $4k+ in engine damage repaired, and won't own up to one participle of responsibility. This is NOT a guy you'll want to go to.
Edit: I'll risk my own thread being locked whenever I decide to go public on this again.
Hmm...I don't know....personally I don't think I would trust anyone to do a mail-order chip for me. They might be a top notch tuner but they are relying totally on a scan. Since our cars don't have WB O2 sensors it would be hard to get it right on. I would only accept a "proven" program for my PCM from an engine that has identical mods as mine. I think in order to do it right the tuner needs to be hands on with the car so he can hear the sound, feel the torque, see the spark plugs, etc.
So I guess what I'm saying is you need to learn to turn your car yourself unless you have an experienced turner in your area. It's not an easy skill to learn and takes years of experience.

My buddy had his car done by the Vette Doctors, he sent his PCM in and they got it ballpark so he could drive it to their shop where they did the tune in person.
PCMforLess can do a dyno tune via the internet. Basically while you are at a dyno getting it dynoed, gather data for the runs, with wideband, and other software scanning, and email them. Then with a AKM cable you can reflash your pcm, or if you have a chip, you can burn the chip with the file they send you. Then you redyno the car, get more data and repeat. SO, modern technology can support a "email" order tune, per sey.
