Default charcole canister???

Well here is the story. Had a bent exhaust valve that ended up shooting pressure thru my vac lines and blowing the charcole out of the canister. Thinking the canister is bad now I bought another one. Pulled it out of the box and chacole was running out of this one also. So my question is 1.)How can you tell if these are bad 2.) Do you even need it 3.) if not what all do you take off. This is on a 90 L98 the smog stuff and EGR are gone already but I thought you would still have to keep this because of the fuel tank.

First, I'm missing the connection between a stuck exhaust valve and damage to the charcoal cannister.

Why remove it? All it does is absorb gasoline vapors from the tank and feed them to the engine when it's running. It doesn't cost ANY power.

RACE ON!!!

That is the start of the problem was the valve. When it backfired it blew a bunch of the canister coal all over the floor. My question is what holds this stuff in there. I pick it up and it starts draining all over the floor. Is it bad or is this something you refill all the time. Never messed with one but it has to have something thats keeps that stuff in there. So it doesnt matter to me if its there or not just dont want the coal all over. Not a power issue with me at all.
