Default ARRGGG!!!! I broke it...

While trying to get my hedders on I broke one of the sensors on the side of the motor. This is an 89/A4 with a currenly stock motor. The sensor I broke is on the drivers side between #1 and #3.

I thought it was the water temp sensor or an Oil pressure sending unit. But the units they brought out at AutoZone had three wires on it. The one that broke only had one wire.

Which one is this? Anyone have a AZone part number I can use for it?

It sounds like you have a booster fan in front of the radiator and that is the aux fan switch.

Is there one relay on the rear of the inner fender well and one on the upper left side of the radiator shroud?

It's the temp sensor that turns on the fan in front of the radiator (the aux cooling fan).

At AutoZone, try SW502 or TU66. Pretty sure it's one of them.

THANKS!!! The part numbers worked great. The guy at AutoZone pulled up the "Suggested" part and said that it was not made any more. Then pulled up your numbers and had them in stock. SW502 looks like an exact match. With that getting changed I was able to complete the hedders on the drivers side of the car. Now... on to the Dreaded passenger side. Or as my 14 year old son who has been helping me calls it... The Evil Passenger Side.

Glad to be of service!

When you're doing the passenger-side header, make sure you take the starter out FIRST. I tried to do the install without removing it, and wound up having to remove it from around the header which had gotten wedged between the starter and the frame... Also, be aware of where the oil dipstick tube is - it probably will have to be bent outward. Mine shorted against a contact on the starter a couple times and zapped me until I hose-clamped it to one of the AIR tubes.

The starter is out and setting on the floor. I did that before we took off the old cast header. I also had to take off the crossmember supports to get the old ones off. It has been quite a task. But I have the drivers side 99% done. (Need to put the crossmember support back on). I hope that the passenger side will be on tonight. I would really like to fire it up tonight if I can.

And as for the dipstick tube... Lets just say that I am glad that I am planning on rebuilding the motor soon. I guess the old owner of the vette had messed with it and gotten it weak. While I was trying to get it out of the way it snapped off at the block. I sreamed out like I had been shot. Alex came running over and I am standing there with the tube in my hand. I tried to tap some threads into the tube with a VERY well greased tap and pull out the remainder of the tube but it will not budge.

So, last night we drained the oil, and I picked up some B12 to spray down the hole to wash out anything that the grease did not keep. I am then capping off the tube and filing her up with the correct amount of oil. I will be changing out the oil about once a month just to make sure that she is where she needs to be.

During the next 3 months I will be rebuilding a 350 4-Bolt main block to drop into the car as a 383. If I was not planning on the rebuild I would be dropping the pan tonight. Oh well... that is why I bought a hobby car right....
