ok well I tore my pump out today to find out why my car would cut out under acceleration when the tank is bellow 1/2 tank.
well the sock was covered with a clear, slimmy sludge.I dont know if this was the problem but it didnt look good.
doesnt sugar turn sludge looking like that when its mixed with gas?
otherwise everything looked good and I couldnt find anywhere it could be sucking air into the line.anymore ideas anyone?
I know the sock isn't supposed to pass water, readily. Maybe it stops sugar too. There is probably a good test for sugar, but I don't know what it is. Lacking a better test, I would put a sample of the gasoline into a cup or on a plate and see if it leaves a crystalline residue after the gas evaporates. Maybe it's varnish from gas gone bad from sitting during an off season. Because of your suspicions, I sure wouldn't button it back up until I knew. Years back I ended up with a lot of dirt from an old gas station I was frequenting. After flushing everything, I scrubbed out the inside of the tank.
eat the sock to see if it taste like sugar. J/K
replace the pump an sock, pressurize it to check for leaks before you reinstall it. then enjoy your ride!

I just cleaned the sock up good and put it all back together and everything is good to go.I ran it down past quarter and went to a desolate parking lot and got the car to turn some g's and I got no more problems.
also I dont suspect any foul play but it did look kinda strange..
