IAT sensor relocate kit ??? Help !!

Default IAT sensor relocate kit ??? Help !!

I bought a intake air temp sensor relocate kit (IAT-78B) made by GMP Parts Co in Calif.
The instructions say to mount the sensor on a rigid surface & the sensor itself is mounted in a "U" shaped aluminium bracket. I always thought they had to mount in the side of the air box using a rubber grommet. You would think mounting it outside the airbox would be kinda useless & there is no grommet on the harness to indicate it should be inside the airbox.
The kit is the correct one for a 85 to 91 vette & my car is an 85. Has anyone else used this kit & what way did you mount it ??

Problem solved, the extension cable is actually long enough to mount it out in front of the AC core in the tunnel.

I think this is a very interesting topic. I don't know if the relocation affects other years, but on my car (1986) the ONLY thing the MAT (or IAT if you want) sensor is used for is to enable EGR, which it does if the temperature is over 0.5°F. Here's the parameter:

LC23A: FCB 30 ; Disable EGR if MAT < (-17.5°C = 0.5°F)

I find same thing written somewhere on net. I have '94 C4 with LT1. It might be that different set up was used on different engines?

Exactly. On the 92 cars, the ecm adds or removes fuel based on IAT temps. The iat sensor actually has nothing to do with the timing tables on the 92 and Im sure other years close. When I procharged my car I moved the IAT sensor because the blower heats the air and also the air is alot more dense. I didnt want the ECM to add or take out fuel due to the sensor.

That is correct for the most part. According to tunercat and greg at blowerworks the c4 IAT sensor only has control over fuel-not ignition. On the 95-96 c4 and all the c5s *I think* the iat is tied into the timing tables.

But still, anyone knows where would be perfect location for this one to install? It doesn't come with grommet but with aluminum holder.

I located mine in the headlight cavity by the horn on the passenger side. I did not put it in the intake duct. I just let it read ambient temps.
