Any of you boosted guys ever blow the AFPR diaphragm? I hit 9 psi on Friday and tore the diaphragm in two....which caused gas to squirt all over the intake. Has this ever happened to any of you? Is this a common occurence?
Nobody has done this? Well that makes me feel better. I was afraid that my FMU was boosting the fuel pressure too high and blowing the diaphagm out of my fuel pressure regulator.
I have had it happen twice on the same car. 383 with blower on it.
Car quit on side of the road, tried to re-start it, smelt gas fumes so I popped the hood. Plenum was full of gas to the point it was running out the throttle body.
Needless to say it needed an oil change.
I will have to say that Im glad to be rid of the Tuned Port. It's nice to be able to remove injectors or work on the fuel pressure regulator without all the hassle.
yep 2 times for me! the dont like anything over 90psi they get kind of grumpy!
BUT the good part easy fix! also i new i did when it would not idle right and the fuel was jumping around from 39psi to 45psi at idle
Well, I figured that sense it was 15 years old, it was bound to fail. It was a pain to find another diaphragm, everyone wanted to sell me the whole fuel pressure regulator. Finally found it at Autozone. $32.99 with a 1 year warranty.
The first one leaked as soon as I put it in. I pulled it out, took it back to Autozone, where I endured their stupid a** questions....did you torque it right? Did you make sure the mounting was clean? Did you tighten the bolts in the correct order? Of course. Where was it leaking? Finally after going through their questions, they gave me a new one. That one worked fine.
It is running fine. It fixed the finicky idle problem and seems to run better. I am getting good at removing the upper plenum. 10 minutes off and back on.
