valve chatter?!? :head hurting:
l98 alum heads, sounds like i have some quiet valve chatter....
okay to drive to shop? most likely causes? worst case cost? best case cost?
any information that anyone has to share would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry about driving it to the shop if it's just a minor noise,
could be something as simple as adjusting the valve lash, didn't say what year, or how many miles on it, but over time everything wears and needs maintenance or adjustments.Shouldn't cost much to adjust.
On the other hand,could be time to replace the hydraulic lifters-all this depends on how many miles,how well the engine has been serviced etc.
My 87 has a little valve noise that I'm not concerned with.

86, over 138,000.
I don't know any better, so I'm worried that I might be looking at replacing the upper half of my engine. I don't have any more clue about valve lash than I do about hydraulic lifters, but thanks at least for pointing me in a direction
