Default First runs with the alky system....

Well guys, I finally got it installed. After tons of talk I finally finished the wiring.

I usually have the btm at 2* which is pretty much overkill but I'm paranoid. I dropped it down to 1 1/2*, no problems. I made 3 or 4 runs from about 40-70 like this. I then dropped it down to 1*. I got on it about 2 or 3 times like this. I did not hear any audible detonation, but I could have sworn that I felt a brief hickup for a fraction of a second at about 80mph or so in 3rd which is toward the middle of 3rd gear. I was paying attention to the road so I'm not sure if I was paranoid or what. It only did it once, the other two times I didn't notice anything. I had the windows up to listen for detonation; nothing.

I got home and checked the resevior which holds about 8/10ths of a gallon. I was down maybe 15% or so.

Setup comes on at about 3 psi @ 9 gph. It goes full 18 gph at 10psi. I'm using 2 nozzles, a 7 gph and an 11gph. Today I probably saw a high of 6 psi. I may have to get another 7 gph nozzle unless I start running some real boost.

Fluid used was peak -20* WW fluid.

Eventually, I'd like to use 50/50 pure alky and distilled water and lean the motor out slightly. With the alky and the fmu and 38lb injectors, it's probably running really rich on the WW fluid. I'd really like to get an innovate LM1 wideband and also pickup an adjustable fmu and tune this thing. I also have a 2.9 pulley sitting on the shelf.

Anyone run their btm at 0* with this stuff?

I'm totally open to any and all input. I'd rather not blow this thing up...

Also, this is just a warmup for my next project which should involve about 25lbs of boost!

Even if you don't get any audible noise you could still be getting some detonation that may harm your engine. Also you'll want to check and see if your knock sensor was pulling out any timing during your runs. The "best" way of doing this is on a dyno and see what settings bring the best horsepower. ALWAYS tune it on the safe side if you don't want to be rebuilding it again. Trust me I've been there done that, I cracked my forged crank in 4 places last summer. I've learned my lesson.

A/F meters are great but the BEST tuning aid as far as I'm concerned for a boosted mill is an EGT. Pay attention to it closely, a peak/hold unit is best that way you can see the highest temp recorded. Alcohol works well...I could run 23-25 psi on my old GN on pump swill with alky injection... Paid REAL close attention to the EGT's though.

Cool. I was also thinking of going with the tts datamaster program to monitor what's going on and then forwarding some of the data to the more knowledgable guys on the board. I know what to look for a/f wise, but not egt wise and definately don't know too much about the other stuff going on that's logged.

How much alky do you guys go through?

I had it to the bottom of the screen in the WW tank and got on it for a little over a 1/8 mile. When I checked it, it the level dropped pretty much the whole neck, which is about 3 inches or so below were it started.

BTW, with no nozzles attached, it took about 1:05 to empty the tank with the pump running. I'm amazed that it goes through as much as it does in about 5 or 6 seconds of running on my 1/8 mile or so runs. I floor it in 2nd and run it up to about 4500-4750 in 3rd (automatic car with 3.73's) which is about 85 mph or so.

The run up to 85 felt good. I had to pedal it in 2nd after I punched it from a 35 mph roll and once it hooked I was off. No signs of detonation whatso ever, but then again I'm still with the btm at 1* and only 6 lbs of boost.
