Hey all, I recently purchased a transmission (used) and decided to put a stock stall converter out of an 85 (known Good) in front of it. I dropped the car (1988) off with a reputable Trans shop and have them throw it in. Well, 24 hours later i get a phone call from said tranny shop.....They said, the trans is in, however, with the wheels off the ground the tires would turn a little...but on the ground the car won't move at all..... The owner of the tranny shop said perhaps the converter was incorrect spline? Correct me if i am wrong (please) but the transmission (unsure of actual year; art carr) was supposed to be a 30 Spline, can't imagine art carr would go with anything smaller..i would assume if ANYTHING the 1985 converter would be, perhaps the smaller spline and would not even lock into the transmission? i am just REALLY hoping there is nothing wrong with this transmission and it was my error in giving the shop an incompatible converter, although i cant see how. i would just think if anything, the converter would not even lock in, considering it is an early converter. No matter what it's definitely going to cost me more, considering they are now pulling it back out. Sh*t, it had 1st, 2nd, and reverse when i dropped it off, now it has nothing. Seems like a step backward to me, but i'm kind of stuck now.....Anyone have some helpful input on this mess?
Thanks,
Jack
1984.5 & up all used the 30 spline.
Tell them to put trans fluid in it..the converter was empty, the trans pumped its remaining fluid into the converter and is now empty.

That would be awesome if that was all it is Morley. The trans shop guy said it took all it's fluid. If they overlooked the fact that it has a deep pan, i'd be (happy, but at the same time) a little upset
CFI-EFI, according to the trans shop, the trouble ended up being a stuck pressure regulator valve, which they said isn't very uncommon in a tranny that has been sitting for a while. Other than that, he said the unit was trouble free and i had no other reason for concern. (He was able to free it up no problem) The car shifts great; I am very happy so far; 30 miles so far, no problems
I can't BELIEVE you made someone ask before telling what the problem was.... Either way, glad it worked out well.
Corvette Kid NC,
Yeah i kinda felt like a real heel not giving up the info, it was just that my head was spinning and the actual fix had nothing to do with the converter, so i kinda felt like a dummy. I over-analyzed the situation and was going completely in the wrong direction; quite nervously i might add..... It was one of those threads i was hoping no one had really noticed.... Did i say i felt like a dummy? Wait a minute, i resemble that remark
