Default 1988 L98 showing code '32'

Like the title says, the check engine light came on today and I pulled code 32 from the system when I got it home. The manual states that there is an issue with the EGR system. My question is this: before I start checking vac lines, electrical connectors, the EGR valve etc, has anyone else had this code and had to replace the ECM? If more people have had the problem solved by replacing the ECM, I'll just do that before checking anything else. Just curious...

Never heard of the ECM being the cause of a 32...its has always been either the EGR valve (or vacuum to it), solenoid (or vacuum/power to it), or the little feedback switch/wiring.

ECM failure is rarely the case.

Its usually a clogged EGR pipe, valve or solenoid/switch 99% of the time.

Yes, they have. A search of the forum will turn up
quite a few postings.

Near the bottom I have an entry mentioning that
when I had the problem, a simple replacement
solved the issue. I forgot to give credit for this
fix to Gordon Killebrew - it is in one of his books.

I think replacing the ECM is listed in the shop manual as the final trouble-shooting procedure for virtually every trouble code on our cars. It rarely gets to that step though. The code 32 is a very common problem.

Thanks, I did a search but did not see that thread. It seems that my problem might not be much of a problem after all, after having read through it. First off, it only happened after being on the highway at 70-75ish for about 10 miles. But I just drove it 20 miles around town, and no SES light. My Flowmasters (first time on the highway with them) probably are tricking the ECM. Couldn't ever figure out why custom chip burners routinely advertise that they will alter EGR... ...makes perfect sense now!

Default No SES code 32 -

JMS-
You said you had no ses light after a drive around town, and sort of imply that the light-on had something to do with your new flows. Did your new exhaust trick the egr, and you had to recal your (chip?)? (I have an '89 L98.
