Default LT1 heads on L98?

Is this a direct bolt on for 86 L98 with aluminum heads, and if so what kind of gains over stock heads? I have an edelbrock intake coming that's been ported and ploished for a 383 with AFR heads if this helps with fitment and matching.

Thanks in advance guys!

LTx heads will not bolt directly onto an L98 engine. The major difference between the LTx block and the L98 block, is that the LTx block is a "reverse-flow-cooling" block. So the cooling passages are completely different. I know that you can have L98 (standard cooling) heads re-machined and modified to fit on a LTx block...so I would guess you could do the reverse. But to be honest it really wouldn't be worth it, the L98 blocks have plenty of aftermarket heads as options that'll be a LOT easier to work with!

what Zix said... it would be much cheaper to use the AFR heads, or Dart, or Edelbrock... LTx heads are nice, yes, some of the best SBC heads ever to come from the factory, but they ain't THAT nice.

Well crap! I saw a good deal on a set ($300) and was hoping to scoop them up and they would bolt right on, but it doesn't look like it's that easy.

I've been eyeballing those AFR's, Darts and Edelbrocks, but with wife hating $1 spent toward the Corvette it's hard to sneak out $1000+ for heads, but I'm not done yet!

Thanks guys for the instant replies!

They will bolt to the block, but since they are reverse-cooled, they will not work.

port your stock heads. its a viable option and a simple pocket port doesn't cost that much. most of the powerr will be had with doing just that anyway. besides the restriction is still in the intake not the heads. unless of course youve modded all of the intake which includes the runners and plenum.

I am ugrading the intake with Edlebrock intake, accel runners and ported plenum which is why I'm looking for a little more on the heads.

I was told to "at least" go with d-ports and work those up a little and sell my center bolts to help recoupe a little $.

I just keep on hearing the intake on TPIs are just the most restrictive type of intake, unless you do something about it. I ported and polished mine, and descreened my MAF and I probably had a little more on top than I had a day ago.

The 113 heads (not sure of all the years they came stock on) like the 1990 L98's had, are great heads. They can be ported to breathe very well up to .600 lift. They will also bolt to your block and intake. The intake then becomes the limiter. They can be had cheap.
