Default drive shaft damper question

I had just taken my drive shaft in for new U joints when the shop called and said the shaft showed a "kink" on the balancer and was spinning out of true.I was given the option of sourcing a replacement C4 shaft
or getting a new custom alluminum one.The only question is the new
one will not have that factory damper. The shop says his shafts will not need the balancer,I'm just trying to confirm his answer.

The damper is actually on the yoke. Can you not just replace it?

The guy at my driveshaft shop said Spicer stopped making them just recently.
He showed me the new yoke for the 700R4 and you can see the raised area where the damper is supposed to mount, but I guess Spicer determined they really weren’t needed.

With Corvette Kid NC.

The weight is on the slip yoke. The slip yoke is removed during the joint change. Who's idea is it to replace the shaft? If you can't knock the offending weight off of the slip yoke, just replace the slip yoke.

my mistake in describing the problem, the "kink" is in the driveshaft not
the damper. The yoke with damper is OK and I asked the shop to reuse it
for which he said he could. That is when he told me for a few more bucks I could get one of their complete custom shafts, the only catch was it has no damper.I was not sure if eliminating the damper would cause problems. The shop said the damper was to correct problems in
the factory shaft but he said the custom would have no such problems.

What are you having done, where "for a few more bucks I could get one of their complete custom shafts"? Personally, if the shaft runs true and balances, I would keep using it. I don't think a dent is that big a deal. Why would their "complete custom shaft" not use the damper? What is it about their shaft that they can't use your present slip yoke with damper? I agree that the damper is expendable, but the "sales pitch" leaves me asking these questions.

Thanks for the feedback. The shop says the shaft won't balance thus
the recamendation for the new one.I think I will go back and ask why
not use the original yoke.Still not clear as to if that damper is required.
Putting in a 383 Miniram and the shop sugested a 3.5 inch shaft in place of the 3 inch factory but I don't think it would clear the beam.

The damper is in place to absorb the vibration.

I recently took my 89 drive shaft in to have new spicers put in. I asked the guy to spin my driveshaft. When he spun it, he saw it was not spinning true. he put a guage at the middle of the shaft and spun it again to show me. the shaft was not straight. He said that he has seen other aluminum shafts to be that way. I had no balancer on the yoke.
He built another shaft for me. I had the option of going steel or aluminum. I opted for aluminum. He spun the new shaft for me with the guage in the middle. It was straight as an arrow. It also took care of a high speed vibration I had.
Not cheap, but I am **** about vibrations.
