Default Stall converter

Posted in drag racing but figure there more views here. If I was to go to a higher stall speed in a stall converter does the engine rpm's go higher before the car moves.Wondering if it would affect regular street driving.Don't want to launch at stop lights.

Very true.

If your stock TC is at 1,500rpm and you go to 2,000rpm you will launch much harder but will not really feel any looseness.

If you go to say >2,500rpm throttle response will feel loose whenever the TCC is not locked.

2500 to 3500. What to be able to launch at strip but be able to drive it in town, Any idea's? Put drag radials on and can't hold car with brake without it pushing the car foward at 1500 rpm's. Would like to be able to get my rpm's up to at least 2500 rpm's where my S/C starts to build boost. Would'nt have problem if was'nt an auto.

I now have a 2,000rpm TC (stock was 1,500rpm) and easily pull low 1.9s launching on street tires. When the track is tight I pull mid 1.8s; the best I did before the TC change was low 2.0s.

If you want to hit pretty hard try a 2,400rpm TC. Go higher and you will need an additional tranny fluid cooler.

The TC in my IROC started out as 2,400rpm 7yrs ago but has loosened up till it now feels like a 3,500rpm unit. Believe me, though it is still easily street drivable under light throttle, it really feels loose. Some guys like this feeling but I really do not.

I agree..I put a 2400 in mine and it feels "loose". and by that I mean that when you you give it a little gas, it doesn't seem to respond very well, almost like the tranny is slipping...HOWEVER, you mash that biotch and it takes off like it was shot through a cannon!

With my 2,000rpm TC I can launch at 1,700-1,800rpm and indeed the drive train is much tighter and the engine is noticibly farther up on the power curve than with the old 1,100-1,200rpm launch with the stock TC.

If you could launch at close to 3,000rpm with a TC you could well find that you would need slicks to hook up.

As mentioned on the street you would notice slippage with a high stall TC but you don't have to worry about it not being street drivable. In fact it won't really move out till engine RPM gets close to the TC stall point, as Bruthish mentioned.

my buddy had a 3000 stall w/ some high gears. when street driving, it was kinda wierd. taking off the engine rpm's wouldn't really climb but the car would keep accell'ing until the rpms got up high enough that it would stop slipping. just felt a tad sluggish driving around like that. but ya, on WOT, it was crazy.

I would keep it at the 2400-2600 level for the LT1, a little lower for the L98...if you plan to drive alot on the street. Otherwise it'll drive you nuts, it'll feel like the tranny is slipping (which it is).

Optimum stall (for ET's) would be about 500rpm below the peak torque rpm, if you have dyno results to tell you where that is.

I have a 2,800 Vigilante in my car- it was weird at first but you do get used to it. I don't think you would want much more than a 2,800 for street driving. It sure is fun to be able blip the throttle and have it shoot to 2,800 instantly though!

I just had my tranny redone and I put in a 2500 stall. Feels a little loose under normal driving, still VERY streetable with the lock-up still intact. Once you get on it hard you better be ready as it will light em up and pull hard. Really helped out with the cam and headers I did over the winter.
