Default Positive Cable, Eaten Away

Well, the title says it all. Had a dead battery and when i tried to remove the positive terminal, the end cap on the wire was so corroded that it just crumbled away. Do I have to buy new wires or just a new cap. Please dont say new wires because that looks like a HUGE job in itself.

The corrosion runs down the wire well past the terminal. Wire replacement is the only solution.

Did that about a year ago on my 2K Grand Prix, yeah it stinks. Good Luck. May not be all that bad, should only have to go to the terminal block with the positive cable, if they sell just the positive and not make you buy the whole battery harness..

By chance, was it an Exide battery? I haven't had one of that brand that didn't leak and they honored my claim for the damge it caused to one of my cars. Also note that Kragen no longer stocks the brand.

You could try stripping back the insulation some and seeing how far the corrosion goes, probably greenish looking. I've done that, cut the cable back to good clean cable and added a new connection.

The Delco battery did that on my daily driver last week... I gotta replace both cables on my Caddy at $65 each...

I think that's the last Delco I ever buy... I'll be doing Optima batteries from now on...

The positive terminal pulled out and acid leaked down the pos cable and all over the negative cable...
