i have an 86' with cast iron heads.i know mostly everyone has 2.59 gears in the back. how do i find out what i have? i have heard of some c4s this year having 3.07s.
Oh yeah and getting a high performance torque converter, how do you choose stall speed? how does this work exaclty? thanks for your help!
scroll down the page and find the thread on torque converters, 86 already has 2000rpm, so you dont really need any further
look in the RPO codes for G44, that is 3.07s
all manuals have it, all automatics with Z51 have it
Or u can lift ur car mark the shaft and turn it, if it turns more
than 3 times than u can conclude its 3.07 and if it turns less than 3 times than conclude 2.59.
Iagree with vader for converter u already have 2000 rpm one but if u want an extra punch go for b & m 2400 hole shot or if u have big pockets go for vigilante 2800 but i think taht would be too much for
a stock motor, If i would be u i would have go for b & m 2400 hole shot
that is desinged for daily driver only 325 bucks from summit or 350
from Tpis.com.
right now im not stock, see mods. desktop dyno says im pushin about 350 chp and 430 ctq. So im problably somewhere in that ballpark. i still wanna build her up more, port and polish the heads. for those numbers does a 2400 rpm sound good? also does getting a different stall torque converter effect your topend performance or gas mileage?
The "jack the car up and turn the wheels" test is an easy one. Jack up both rear wheels(due to posi) and make a mark on the driveshaft. Then with car in neutral, turn the rear wheels by hand one full turn. Count the number of times the mark on the driveshaft comes around. About 2-1/2 =2.59, a little over but less than three time, 2.73, almost exactly 3=3.07.
