I have 3:45 gears in the rear and need to know what gear to change in the trans to correct the speedometer. The trans I took out and replaced evidently was fixed for this and the new rebuilt one isnt. So if I can take a part out of the old for the new I just need to know what.
The easy way is to use the speedo parts from the old trans. There are three parts that can be different. The speedo drive gear, the driven gear and the VSS. If the drive gears are the same color, either red or grey, (likely) you won't even have to pull the tail shaft housings off. Just swap the driven gears and the VSS. The VSS may not have to be changed, but rather than explain it all, just keep the driven gear and the VSS as a pair.
The speedo gears used for the manuals are the same. I did the same thing, went from 3.07's to 3.45's and had to swap the gear on the tail shaft of the tranny. I re-used the other gear and my VSS. If you are going from 2.59's or 2.73's you'll need the 3.07 VSS. The pn's for everything are on this page. You'll need a grey 15 tooth drive gear and possibly the VSS.
Yes it was corrected on the old one and with out thinking I installed the new one with out doing this first. So I guess I will be taking it appart again.
You can see the color of the drive gears through where you pull the driven gear out. If the new and the old are the same color, you won't have to pull the tail shaft housing off. Not a lot of tearing apart to do.
