Default need help with waether stripping

Is it safe to attempt to replace myself with the correct release agent and tools. I don't want to screw it up...I have 1/2 new OEM and 1/2 repo...I am also worried about the proper fitting of the repo stuff I got off Ebay...anyone have any good/bad experiences?

Thanks...

I've paid out the wazoo for chevy rubber, & Ive bought off e-bay.
I have noticed no difference.
Both take time to break in, then they're allright.
Just clean the channels out put the glue in & fit it in as best you can.
Then it takes time for them to break in.
Thats my experince.
good luck.

You can do this job. Have patience and work slow. We all have to do this job or have done this job. Very easy. Give it a try.

Very very time consuming. I have seen people on the Forum say it can be done in a few hours
Not my experience. It took days and days, but the end product was worth it.
The most important part is taking the old stuff off and cleaning everything so it is spotless. No compromise allowed there or you will pay with leaks and poor fit.
I used the Eckler's stuff, and even though lots of people say it is crap, I had no problem with it.
If you have lots of patience, it is an easy job to do, but if you do not have patience, take it in somewhere and let someone else do it.

I just replaced the LH door main seal and outer window sweep. I originallypurchased some sofseal main seals off Ebay. The seal itself was fine. It installed well, but I did not like the fact that I could not torque the nuts down to hold the weatherstripping in place since their were no supporting material in the rubber. I used some tape to hold the pieces in place while the glue dried and then put the screws in.

The difference is that the GM OEM main door seal has the plastic support pieces embedded in the weatherstripping. The aftermarket pieces do not. The aftermarket window sweep was fine.

I ended up buying new door main seals from Chris May at Superior Chevrolet. He gave me the discounted price. I just put the driver side in last night and will do the RH side this weekend.

Good Luck,
Dino

I just finished re-doing my whole car and I can tell you now that if you have any Metro brand throw it away and get Corvette Rubber or GM.
With no reinforcement in the ends the window pulls the weatherstrip down inside the door every time it goes down.

Anyone have any recommendations as to what glue to use? I'm about to put new weatherstripping in on the "B Pillar" (the section from door to door and between the targa and halo). There are 3 reinforcments there, so I have no problem with using ebay weatherstripping (I cleaned 2 and bought one new piece).

Anyway- what glue should be used?

Mikey, use 3M super weatherstrip adhesive. It come in a tube (5oz) and is $10.99 from Ecklers, part # A5407.
