This is a bone stock 89' with an automatic trans. It only has 57K on the clock but I just bought it and it had sat for several years. I believe it's time for a good tune-up. What should I replace; Cap, rotor, coil, plugs, wires..etc? Should I upgrade from AC Delco with some aftermarket parts? If so, which parts should I upgrade, what brand should I go with, and where should I get the parts in order to get good prices? Should the timing be changed? I should add that this Vette if just for around town fun and some highway trip use. I would like some better pick-up but no track use here. Thanks!
Zack
Lots of opinions on plugs. No problems here with AC Delco and Hypertech Supercoil. With Hypertech SuperCoil you could gap plugs @ .045 for a couple extra HP. Supercoil available from ZIP, a supporting vendor here.

For your usage, stock parts are plenty good. For the parts you are replacing, more expensive goodies won't give you one ounce more performance. The only advantage to the more expensive platinum plugs is length of service. Plain old conventional spark plugs will be more economical in the long run. Although they do live longer, their price increases at a greater rate than their life span. If you absolutely hate to change plugs and would prefer not to be bothered, the platinums might be worth it to you, but you'll gain no increase in power.
Don't go nuts on the wires, either. A good set of spiral core 8 mm wires will probably be better and cost less than the Delcos.
Skip the coil and go stock on the cap and rotor.
Advancing the base timing beyond the spec should give you a performance boost. The stock timing is 6* BCD. Set it at 8* and test it. Then go to 10* and test it. When you reach the point that the performance drops off, go back to the previous setting.
