I've dismantled an '85 and '86 column all the way down to the last nut and bolt. Everything was removed from the column. What parts are you trying to reassemble? I do have some pics of the service manual which details the various parts of the column in expanded views.

I have the thing down to where I removed the screw for the key tumbler. Now I need to find out what order things go back together.. Have you changed the rack and pinion gear in the coloum before?

Are you referring to the rack for the tilt? Yes. It's hard to explain from memory. I still have a column completely disassembled, I'll have to look. I leaving town this weekend. What problem have you had with the column?
