When I had this problem,it turned out that I didnt screw the knock sensor in far enough.I also made the mistake of using sealer on the threads and that interferes with the ground.

So It wasnt hearing the ecm self test for knock and would throw the code. With a scanner I was able to use a small hammer and tap around the engine to see if the knock sensor was hearing it or not. That helped alot. For some reason, the torque setting wasnt enough so I cleaned off the threads and I screwed the sensor in some more and it began to pick up the knock from the test.

Not sure if this is the same problem you have or not.Good Luck.

code 43 has been plaguing my '85 since i bought it.

I've replaced the knock sensor, esc module, wiring, and connector.

I've also tried bypassing the knock sensor completely (as CFI-EFI does), and I still get a freaking code 43...

Someone suggested to me once that the oil temp sensor (if its bad) interferes with the knock sensor code... He swore it fixed his situation, I never got around to trying it.

::: EDIT::: And if your curious I have my timing at 2* (long story)
