Default Strange thing about '96 knock sensor

I was looking through the Corvette Central catalog and saw something interesting about the '96 knock sensor.
It seems that all '92 to '95 LT1 engines use the same knock sensor.
But, the '96 uses the same knock sensor as the '84 to '86 engines, not the other LT1 engines.

What's up?

I noticed that also. Seems GM uses about 4 knock sensors in most of there models. My wife's buick Le Sabre uses the same knock sensor as my 87 vette. I presume they are different levels of sensativity but not too sure.

That is what I am thinking too.

But, if that is true, did they try to make the '96 engines (LT1 and LT4) more, or less, sensitive to knock?
And why?

I know there was a different LT4 "knock module."

the OBD-II knock sensors are a different impedance. if i remember correctly, the OBD-I sensors are 3.9k, and OBD-II 100k. not interchangeable without circuit modifications.
