Default Considering New Heads, DIY?????

I am considering new heads for my vette. Where is the best info on how to assemble, etc? I have never done any head work at all. Being a college student, if I do it, I will have to assemble and install myself. Any pointers, pitfalls, things to avoid? I am currently running a hotcam w/1.6 RR and a superram on a ZZ4 motor. I figure if I could get that beast on, I surely can assemble and install some heads.

Thanks,
Doug

Are you asking how to assemble the heads or how to install the heads?

If it is how to install I would suggest any manual that gives info on a small block, ie. Chilton, Haynes. You can usually get these in any auto parts store. They will have info on torque and the proper sequence to install and tighten the head bolts.

I helped Aflac redo his recently and it is not hard, just time consuming.

If you buy performance heads they will come ready to bolt up. With your cam & intake mods it sounds like this where you are going.

If you want to rework your stock #113s there are several references on port & polish, etc of these late L98 Vette heads.

In either case you will need the GM Shop Manual from HELM; do not rely on lesser documentation.

BTW, did you install the cam & SR or have them done?

I am asking for a good reference on how to build heads.
I already have the helms set to cover the install. I haven't a clue where to begin building a set. My 113's I have right now have about 1K on them brand new. They came on the motor. I cannot afford to drop $2K on a set from AFR or TPIS or any of the others right now. I realize It may cost that in the long run, but figured I could get a bare set and put them together. Save myself the labor costs.
I did the superram myself, the guy who did my motor did the the hotcam kit for me before we dropped it in.

Anyway, sorry I wasn't as clear with the first post...

Thanks,
Doug

Where can I find these references on porting the 113's? I am leery of porting the only set I have as they are aluminum and I am afraid of getting a little too crazy with abrasive.....

You'll need a valve spring change tool. For machining, a 3 angle valve job and a resurface will be neccesary.

For porting, stay away from the dremel. I would even question electric drill based setups as well. I use a air powered die grinders. I start with an oval cutting/milling bit, then move to abrasives.

it's a lot of work and you will screw up the first time,
