Cross Frame update
Someone in another thread wanted to know how much ground clearance was lost with the R-D Racing Cross Frame, because he had a lowered car. At the rear mounting points, it is reduced 1 15/16" and at the front mounting points, 1 1/8". I have not checked the center yet but if someone needs to know I can, the next time I have it up in the air. Another thing I've noticed that I really like, is that the shudder these cars get sometimes when they hit a bad bump at speed is virtually gone. You can tell that the suspension is now able to do what it's designed to do and that the frame is no longer acting like a spring. Also no more front spoiler scraping going down a rather steep and rough inclination on the approach to my garage. This is definitely one sweet chassis upgrade!

From: St. Peters MO Sometimes you have to prove yourself by doing alot of killing or alot of dying...
that's cool
I posted a similar question because I wanted to know about ground clearance issues and if it is truely worth the $$$ or not.
Please take your car out... run it hard thru the twisties and give me an accurate assessment. TIA

I'll have some F1s here for the rear in a few days and I have some good Toyos to go on the front. THEN I'll be ready for the twisties again. I've got some real $hit tires on the front right now that make it push on extremely hard cornering. I HATE a push! I'm an old dirt racer, I can handle the rear getting out but when it won't steer, that just sucks!

The shipping weight on it was 37 lbs. It was in a suitably large cardboard box and was well wrapped in plastic cling so I'd say 35-36 lbs. That should have lowered the center of gravity a bit!
Wow, almost 2" clearance reduction in the rear. How much ground clearance is remaining? Any concerns of bottoming out?
I've had several units in the shop now and we seldom see any marks where the frame has touched the ground at the point mentioned. The rear mounting is the lowest point on the frame, but keep in mind that it is directly in front of the rear tire. So unless you run over something that sticks out of the ground by 4 inches the rear tire is right there to raise the frame up.
The center section is the most likely area to drag due to the distance from the tires. This was the reason we decided to also offer the frame in a weld together center section to gain another 3/8" ground clearance.
I should have known better to try to go over an unusually high and wide parking lot speed bump the other day, especially with a buddy who's a tight fit for the passenger seat. But I did, and I thought it was gonna tear it right off the bottom of the car. I had to ask him to step out just to get off of it with minimal scraping. It bent over some of the lower portions of the vertical metal in a couple spots, but I don't think it damaged it. And if it did, I'd buy another one to replace it with
Edit: I think there was a slight redesign to this piece since mine was purchased.

F1Fan,
I'd like to see a picture of the damaged spot. I'm not sure what your calling vertical metal. If it's a Cross-frame, ship it to me and I should be able to repair it. I don't show any record of your purchase unless you bought it through Mid-America.
