The reason he didn't know what you were talking about was because hooker doesn't make long tubes for LT'S.I just went through this with jegs.Hooker only makes headers for the 84 - 91 C4'S.But they say you can make these work with several modifications to the headers for the emisions hookups.Or you can purchase TPIS headers that will bolt right on for around 900.00 dollers.

Hooker doesn't make a Longtube header WITH AIR fittings that fits a LT-1.

People, like me, who have Long Tube Hookers do not have AIR injection installed on their cars. We have taken it off.

TPIS headers are not even close to $900 dollars and your claims about a 5rwhp gain is crazy too. Other than that you are correct.

i have a 95 and pickup up the headers built for the earlier c4.
they are hooker super comp 1 3/4" primaries not coated with no emissions control. The only thing that i had to do was pull the bolt out of the motor mounts and flip it around so that the nut was on the other side. other than that the headers had to clearance themselves by burning off some of the heat wrap around the stock motor mounts, but not so much that it would be a problem.

These questions have been answered a thousand times but here you go:

AIR are the ports going into the exhaust manifolds currently on your car. This is poart of the emissions system which cam on your car from the factory.

To remove this system is against the law and also you will not pass an emissions inspection if you have testing in your state.

I and others do not live in an emissions controlled state thus this stuff doesn't apply to me so I opted to go with the Hookers specifically made for a L98 on my LT-1. There are ZERO fitmit issues at all. ALL 350 chevy engines have the same spacing on the heads. There is no blockage over the LT-1 heads and there is not fitment issues with the body or frame. They fit perfectly.

When you remove the AIR system from you car you also have to get custom tuning to tell your computer it is gone. If you do not your car will throw a code and run like crap.

about those coatings...probably not, but polydyne is a company in texas that should be able to do it for $200 or less. They did mine for free to showcase for them...ask them about it. oh yeah and they will do just about any basic color that you want. and remember i am talking about a ceramic coating, not a powder coating.

the hooker super comps do not, you would have to have your car tuned by a RESPECTABLE shop. Do you know of any in your area, specifically with a dyno??

Hooker 2151 comes with no emissions equipment at all for the L98 or the LT-1

Hooker 2149 comes with AIR emissions equipment for the L98 specifically which is very useless for the LT-1.

why are you afraid to delete your emissions equipment? You don't have cats on the car right now, right?

For someone who needs to keep emissions you should go with TPIS or EM. Honestly the quality is probably the same.

I would get some pricing info first. There usually is a GP on the EM headers so look for that on here. Scorp already posted some good links for the TPIS stuff.

cause i dont want to have to worry about getting it tuned before i can drive it if it will run like crap without that AIR stuff. i will get tuning software down the road but would like headers first. looks like i may go with TPiS i guess.

it wouldn't run that bad, and i would not recommend tuning or deleting or messing with the settings in the computer if you do not know what you are looking at. At this point a dyno tune might be good for your car. You ever seen your air/fuel ratio on a wideband???

First, I don't know about ealier LT1s but on my '95 removing the A.I.R. stuff caused no codes or any other problems. I did it when the car was still close to stock and it was fine then and is still so. I would think your '96 would fare equally well. EM has been having GPs on their headers about every three months lately, they're about due. The usual price on their LT1/4 coated headers is $771. During the GPs they are $671 plus around $30-35 shipping if I remember. They are very nice headers. I bought some during the winter GP but then shortly thereafter found these DRMs (no longer made) so I let a friend have the EMs. Nothing wrong with the EMs, I just liked the stainless headers better. EM also makes a stainless header but does not offer it as part of the GP.
