Last night I was on a date, came out of the steak house, got in the car, flipped on the lights, and it happened....the driver's side light stopped spinning halfway around. After a couple of times cycling the switch, I finally had to just get out and give the light a push...kinda embarrasing. Same thing after we left the movie, then the bar , and her house this morning. Is this a burnt motor? Stipped gears? Any clue?!?
This is usually caused by the viscous goo added to the middle of the gear in the headlight actuator drying out. There are Delran® bushings that can be put in there. You can get them at Eckler's or Mid America Designs. I think they were around $5.00 last time I bought a set and took maybe 15 minutes to install.

Fifteen minutes? You'se bad ****, then. My personal best was 35 minutes the second 'go round.
BTW, you can also get those nylon spacers from Home Depot much cheaper than that if your Vette is a 1988 through 1996 model.
Ask for item 859609. You will need two packs of three spacers to repair both lights. Check the C4 TechTips section and click this link for install instructions.

Anybody else ever noticed the similarity between the headlight motor for the 88-96 c-4 and a windhield wiper motor and gear set up? If they can make windshield wiper motors that last for 200K miles, they certainly could have made these headlight motors to last. It seems like they didn;t really intend them to last, or try very hard to design them so they would. I guess the question is, did the engineers think this was going to hold up, and just figured wrong, or did they intend to minimize the design so the cars would not last forever? Now there is a cynical thought huh. I'm not angry, just a bit dissappointed, and exploring this subject in a philisophical kind of way. This is NOT a rant.
Thanks for the advice. It did it again last night. Since I have had the car I have noticed the hdlght motor runs about 5 seconds even after I have turned the light off and they have flipped. Is there a prox switch or limit switch on these things?
Yeah, the week has been good. Spent Monday night with my sons, Tuesday on my boat on Lake Cumberland, Wednesday at the Reds game two rows back from 1st base and then a GOOD date, had a good date last night after my oldest's soccer game, and put about 60 miles on my CBR929 today. Date tonight, plan on going to taste of Cincinnati tomorrow, then spend rest of the weekend with my parents and sons on Cumberland on the family houseboat.
I guess if winking headlights and an ex-wife are all I have to complain about...life must be good.
My left headlight crapped out the other night. On a date. Why is it that the Vette runs without any issues until someone hops in the passenger seat? Thats when stuff breaks. Only when someone else is there. Oh well, fixed now. Thanks for the tip guys...

Yeah, mine runs for a few seconds after they close too. What is up with that? It also sometimes sticks halfway open. Are the problems related?
So I got home from a party and in front of my Vette were a bunch of hot girls. As soon as I pulled the headlight switch, my Vette's left headlight just kept on winking and winking for about 10 seconds. I was about to get out of my car and fix it and suddenly it stopped winking and finally flipped up in the correct position. I'm guessing my Vette also has a taste for hotties like I do. Hmmmm.... Maybe it was because I got on of them to pose on my Vette earlier and it just had to wink at her thereafter... lol
I was out of town for the weekend and one of my employees drove my 94 in a parade in the small town I live in with the county queen on the roof. He was going to drive with the lights on but the stupid thing got stuck in half-flip. He had to get out and give it a nice budge to get it over.
You guys are right....BS always happens at the worst time. Two years ago the alternator on my truck went out in the 4th of July parade and we ran on battery for an hour. I was horrified to think the only lube shop in town was going to have to have it's truck TOWED through the parade. That would be bad for business.
