Default 4+3 2nd gear question

I am having a hard time getting into second gear. The problem is that it seems like I have to shift the stick way to far towards me to get the car into gear. Once in gear there is quite a bit of play forwards to back in the shifter. In all of the other gears there is no other play while in gear. Does the linkage need adjustment or what?

it sounds like the linkage is worn... I really don't know if they're adjustable or not.

Linkage is somewhat adjustable, but perhaps your shift fork has also bent over time.

I got a new rebuilt transmission 2 years ago so I hope the shift fork isn't messed up yet. I'll check the linkage tomorrow, but I wouldn't be suprised if it was the fork.

I thought syncros made it hard to get in gear, and worn forks made it pop out?

And on these T10s, the 2nd gear syncrho is always the first to go.

After driving around like an idiot with a dying slave cylinder, my shifting became notchy, and it can pop out of 3rd gear when enginebraking at high rpms. Still shifts pretty good at the track though, so I'm happy for now.

There is a bolt that holds the shifter to the left side of the tunnel. You'll have to remove the sde panel to see it. Make sure it's tight. The nut is under the car, 2 man job....

What will I be securing by tightening the nut? I'm going to do it, just curious.

Problem presumably solved. 1-2 linkage nut on the side of the transmission was loose, causing lots of play in the shifter.
