It's time for shocks on my '92 convertible. I don't like buying "the very best" because it usually means you're paying extra money for a relatively minor improvement or, since I don't race, an improvement that I won't even notice.
On the other hand, if spending "a few dollars more" will put a bit broader smile on my face when I slip into the occasional twisties, them I'm down for for it.
I'd like to keep the cost well below $100 /ea unless doing so means that I'll be missing out. Is there anything out there in that range, or do you suggest that I just bite the bullet and drop $125 per shock for Edelbrocks or Bilsteins?
i have always used KYB Gas-A-just's as replacement shocks for all my cars. They are roughly 1/2 the cost of Bilsteins, and I have never had a problem with the KYB shock....
ShockWarehouse has very competitive prices, and they have FREE shipping through May....
The "Posi-Control" shocks that Mid America sells are a great value. These are the re-valved shocks that TPIS does. I have a set on my '85 Z51 and I love them.
$140 for a set of four. You can't beat it.
I put a set of KYB's on my 92 coupe last fall. Major improvement over the worn-out screen door closers that were on there when I bought it a few months prior.

He wasn't looking for a consensus, he was looking for the best shock for the money. ( I think he found it; not the best shock, not the cheapest shock, but the Bilstein is probably the best for the dough.)

AHHH...an analyst like myself; I like that.
I'll have to choose my inflections a bit more wisely now.
