Default what's going on here???

ok...where do I start?...the vette sat in the garage for about 3 weeks before I got to replace the fuel lines. So this past weekend, I replaced them and put everything back together then stuff starts going wrong. (But, before any of this even happened, about a year ago, my ecu went out and I had to get a new one. That time it sat for about 3 months) Anyway, after putting everything back together and starting it up, it idles about 6-700 rpm...back and forth, it's smooth but not steady. Then as I took it for a test spin around the block I noticed that when I'm just cruising or give it more gas it's kinda poppy, like it's missing or something. Then today, I had to drive it to work so I started it up and drove it there and as I was sitting at a light, the rpm's were going from 6-700 again, back and forth. Then as it stayed around 6 it made a small whinning noise then the battery light flickered on and off, then stayed on. So I looked at my voltage and it was ranging from 11.0-11.6 either when I was stopped or moving. Everything else is fine, and I was thinking that since it had been sitting that one time for a long period of time and this past time, that maybe one of my plugs got gas fouled from sitting or something. I asked one of the guys from O'Reilly what he thought it could be and he said maybe one was fouled and i was only running on 7 cylinders, but what would explain the voltage situation? Everything else is hooked on my motor, my MAF sensor, IAC sensor (which I cleaned saturday), all vacuum lines, plus I've changed the fuel filter since I purchased the car. Has anyone had this similar problem or have any ideas on what I should do???

Thanks in advance....

Sounds like your alternator is taking a dump on you. The wandering idle would be from it "energizing & deenergizing" as it is failing...the low voltage is a goot indicator that something is up with the charging system. This could also cause problems with the injector operation and the ignition system.

so if my volts were at 13 and up then the idle would be smoother? I'm not getting the throttle response and smooth flow I normally get.

Check your battery connections to make sure there clean and tight. My 87 has always idled between 600-700, not a real bouncy action but there.Don't know how acurate these tachs are.Never hurts to change the plugs if its been awhile. When you cleaned your IAC did you follow the procedure for resetting it?

just changed the spark plugs and cleaned the battery contacts. Idle smoothed up a little but it's still poppy at cruising speed and when I accelerate. Volts are still around 11's. Should I go get the alternator tested? I repalced it about 6 months ago, how could it go bad already?

SPARK PLUGS WIRES!!! The L98 will fry anything in the engine compartment: in this order 1) spark plug wires. 2) altenator. 3) Battery, 4) any wire not in a protective sheath

if this checks out then replace altenater...
