Default How long will a factory timing chain last in LT1/Hot Cam?

A friend is buying my Hot Cam, Rockers (LT4 OEM) , Springs etc. I have an extra timing chain from GM(OEM LT1) as this all fits his budget. How long or reliable is that chain going to be for this combo,LT1 with Hot Cam in a Auto and shifting at 6000rpm +-.

I've only had the Hot cam in for 17K miles, but the engine is at 97K miles right now. I did not put in a new timing chain.

I don't go to the track often, maybe 4 times per year, but I shift at 6200-6400 rpm.

These LT1 engine components are not as weak as some people make them out to be. The weakest link is the hypereu-plastic pistons.

Is this a new or used set? Miles if used?

The LT4 Hot Cam kit, that comes from GM, says the stock LT1 chain should not be run over 5500 rpm.

The Hot Cam has about 1-2kmiles, and the rockers arent more than 5kmiles, the springs are new LT4 Hot Cam, and lifters are the CompCams R lifters, 1-2kmiles that were on the Hot Cam. All for 500 bucks.
The timing chain is still in the wrapper, plastic GM bag, but the timing gears are 38 kmiles.

If that were the case the factory rev limiter would be below 5500. Just a thought.

I had my hotcam kit and a brand new GM timing chain installed a while ago.

Its been 4 years and 18000 miles of drag racing, hard street driving, and road tracking with regular shifts at about 6100 RPM.

No problems here.

I guess if you look at it, some of the chains we used years ago with Nylon gears and everything was a little old. So the new stuff isnt all that bad.

Assuming the gears look good then, there should be no worries. For non double roller, this stuff is pretty good.
