I've lost 4 high pressure hoses in 3 years. I lost one today in the second session at Pocono with a Diablo on my azz. (I couldn't pull him but he couldn't pass me either on the straights ) But had to let him go by once my steering started to fail. The hose failed again at the fitting that goes into the pump. The last 2 did the same. The last 2 were GM hose kits.
I e-mailed DRM to see if they still have a better hose they used to sell. Has anyone ever used it? Any idea on price, modifications? How do you guys that track your cars make the hose survive?
At least I got to take my buddys 96CE out I modded to 400hp, and my other buddys 02 ZO6 to beat a few more Ferrari and others. Working on all my buddys cars mean a have a bunch of back up cars. I had about 6 there to choose from. What a great bunch of good friends
How's about a custom mfg hose made from braided hose and A/N fittings? Or if you know someone in the aerospace industry, hose with MS permaswage fittings. These hoses are made with a 5k psi minimum burst pressure and MS fittings WILL NOT leak (unless they are damaged).
Same experience here - went to the DRM stainless braided hose kit and haven't had a problem since. The SS hose is a bit of a PITA to get installed but worth every minute. The hose does not take kindly to being twisted / bent into the tight radius that is needed for installation but believe me, it can be done and lives quite nicely during track events. I've had mine installed for over a year and haven't seen any evidence of leakage - several track events and everything is dry. I don't think you'd be disappointed with your results.
I have had the same problem with my LT4 and it really sucks when you get that spray of powersteering fluid across the inside of the hood during a track day. It happened about 5 times to me the first few years I was doing track days.
My solution has been to use a NAPA Pressure hose and just replace them after 500 track miles as a preventive measure. I also use Redline PS fluid now. No more problems, and with a little practice it is fairly quick to change the hose.
