I have a 94 LT-1 coupe that came with the "hard" top . I got my hands on a '94 glass top that was broken. The frame is perfect shape along with the weather stipping. I have been looking into an AstroTop replacement.
I'm looking into replacing my glass top on my 94. I read on here a while back that there were problems with Astro Top. Melrose is supposed to be better. And there is also a place on e-bay that a couple of people said worked well. I haven't done it yet but I'm either going with Melrose or the guy on e-bay.
What seems unusual to me is that I can't find a hard top.
I was just on the Melrose sight. They seem a little more expensive than AstroTop. They sell the hard top for $715 RTP with headliner. There are hard tops on ebay all the time. I have purchased 2 glass tops off Ebay. The first was broken in shipment, the second was broken when I bought it and it got worse in transit. If you buy one, make sure you pay for insurance and insist on GOOD packaging.
I am the Ebay king. I bought my '94, the Corsa exhaust, the black A-molds, the shifter, both tops, a used MADVETTE ram air kit (not yet installed), and my shorties off Ebay. Not to mention tons for stuff for my AutoCross car, by quads, and street bikes.
E-bay just makes me nervous. I've bought concert tickets and a couple of other small things but big dollar stuff still scares me off. I know a lot of people who buy all the time on e-bay, I'll get over it eventually. I guess one of thethings that makes me unsure is when somebody says mint condition (except for a couple of minor scratches). Well to me if it's scratched it's not mint, and what do they consider minor? Oh well. I guess I'll have to start sooner or later...
Know how you feel. I am really into sportbikes and paid for my 929 and my quad by buying and selling wrecked bikes and parts on Ebay. I was not really in the market to buy my '94 when I was bidding on it. I put in a REALLY lowball bid thinking there is no way it will sell that low. Down in Covington a Chevy dealer had one just like it but in red with more miles on it for $8,000 more. Once I won the auction, I figured I would cash in some FF miles and take my girlfriend to Miami and pick it up. Even if it wasn't perfect, $9400 for a '94 LT-1 six speed with 66.300 miles on it wasn't bad. I have fixed it up a little and have had offers of up to $14k but I just love it too much to part with it.
