So long as you know, once you program it, you must deprogram it when you give it back.
PP retains your VIN, so it can only be used on one car at a time.

Can they be reprogramed? I`ve got one sitting in my closet with the info from a `97 Z28 that I no longer own, so its just collecting dust.

Your best bet is to buy one on ebay or in the for sale section. Many can be had for $150. Just be sure the programmer is clear of any prior vin codes.
