Default Got the new battery

Like y'all told me, the battery wasn't worth squat after being in storage for 2 years. I just got a new battery today and the parts store took one look at the black eye (that was supposed to be a green eye) on the battery and said the old battery was definitely toast.

Now I need to figure out what's wrong with the windshield washer and the gas guage. The gas guage seems to stick on full. It's intermittent.

Thanks for the help.

Glad you got the battery replaced.

The wiper wash pump could be bad or lines could be clogged check and make sure pump gets power when wash switch is applied.

The false fuel reading is most likely the float sticking or the sending unit.
It's not that hard to get to. It's just like replacing fuel pump as far as labor to get at it to check it for sticking or replacing it.

Here's mine out when I put in my new high performance fuel pump. The arrows point to float and float arm and sending unit. The arm should swing freely.

I need to get some time to check the power to the pump motor and check the lines. I'm busy 24/7 right now but one day this summer I'll take a day of rest and work on my car.

This looks like you took it out of the fuel filler area. Is this correct? I've not looked into the manual yet as this is a new problem and I just unpacked the manuals last night (everything has been in storage for the past 2 years.) It's nice to get my car back.

Now get a battery tender so it doesn't happen again. Oh, and USE the battery tender too!

WhiteHorse,

Print out the C4 Tech Tip on repairing the Fuel Sending Unit by frizlefrak and it will walk you through repairing the sending unit. Easy fix that takes about 45 minutes to an hour.

That is correct.

First open the lid of fill cover and remove the 4 screws securing it and the plastic under it. It is all one piece, then pull the fuel lid cover and the fuel cap then rubber spill boot as pictured.
Dont be surprised how dirty the whole area is under lid and boot from car wash and rain runoff as its an area that doesnt ever see cleaning. I was like

Then unplug the wire harness thats going to everything and remove the 3 fuel hoses being careful to note what goes back where and have a rag handy for the bit of fuel that will come from them. Then remove the 10 or so screws around the filler and carefully lift the whole fuel pump and sender unit out and have a plastic bag or something spread over rear of car to protect from fuel drips.

Heres a shot of the old stock pump laying to the side and the new walbro 255lph pump and strainer sock installed with the old rubber cover on it. Thought you may could use another view of the sender float.

Way cool. Thanks a lot. I hope to get to that next weekend (or the weekend after). I currently can't drive my car because the registration is expired in Texas and I was denied in Massachusetts. I just recently paid off the car and I don't yet have the title. I must petition Texas for a copy of the title. Then I can register in Massachusetts.

Thanks a bunch. Looks like a pretty easy job.
