Default Removing Door Molding

I've checked Haynes, Helms, and the forum archives and cannot find the answer.

I'm trying to remove the outer door molding (the black strip) from my '85.

how do I do this?

I would remove the door panel, roll the window up and remove the nuts on the inside.

Good Luck!...just looked at this, and the nuts are behind the structural support on my 85....I could not see any way to get at the nuts.....but then again, maybe I'm just blind....

Nah - no need to take off the inside panel, and it won't do you any good. All that holds the beltline molding (black rub strip in the middle of the door) is two nuts - one at either end of the thing - you can see them on the inside (backside) of the door. A bit of Breakaway or Blaster might be needed, but that's it for bolts. All down the length of the molding there are simple spring clips that just poke thru holes on the plastic door skin, every couple of inches. Just pull the molding off. Perhaps a small prybar or screwdriver !carefully! behind the molding to help it come free, but that's all it takes. The small molding pieces behind the doors in front of the rear wheel openings are held on with Two nuts each from the backside - take the inner wheelwell plastic out to get in there. They will probably be rusted solid - unless someone before you has dealt with it. You can just break them off and then replace the pieces with new - while they are still available!

Thanks

I had the door panels off before, so I knew I couldn't get to them on that side, I wasn't sure what was holding them into place.

I have all the other molding off the car- some came off no problem, some had to be replaced.
