Default Burnout question

I am wanting to enter a burnout contest this weekend at a local carshow. Whats the best way to do it. I thought about disconnecting and blocking off the rear calipers. Any other ideas. I'm taking off my 315/35's and replacing with the stock 255/50/16's. The car is an 85 auto. Thanks, maybe I'll be able to get some pics.

Instead of blocking off the rear calipers just install a electric line locker. That way you can do well at the burn out contest and then if you head to the strip you can use it there as well. They attach to the rear brake lines off the master cylinder and then a electrical source to activate and deactivate the switch plus a switch in the cockpit.

Yes a like lock is the way to go, but it goes in the front brake like from the MC.

To activate it you lock the brakes and depress the line lock switch and release the brake pedal. The line lock solenoid holds pressure on the front brakes, while pressure to the rears is released.

When ending the burn out, depress the line lock button to release pressure to the front brakes.

Maybe MrMoJo will correct me if my description of usage has any error.

A line lock, typically, is installed in the front brake lines. In many instances, a rear line lock is not permitted by NHRA. A line lock is not necessary for a decent burn out. Just feather the brakes and apply the throttle.

RACE ON!!!

I have never seen a line lock fitted with a dual action switch. They normally use a "push to hold" (SPST momentary contact) switch, that maintains the front brake line pressure until the button is released.

RACE ON!!!

Just did my first major burnouts at the track last week with the new drag radials.

Fricking awesome!!!

Clutch and brake are very close together though so it was hard at first to get going. You have an auto so that won't be a prob.

Have fun balding the crap out of those 255's!!

Line lock isn't as fun. Block off the rears or just ride the brakes. Gives you more room to be creative by easing off the brake pedal.

Yep you guys are right. I don't know what I was thinking.... I does go on the front brakes. A guy had one that I described (with the exception of it hooked up the rear brakes) the last time as the strip maybe he pressed the brake and then hit the switch to lock it I just did not see him press the pedal. He did use a toggle switch. It may have been is own design/thingy.

Ah so the line lock is a press & hold, good to know.

The one on the rear brakes may have been a form of "roll controll", home made.

Was it a Vette? If not maybe it was a front wheel drive car. They put the line locks on the rear for burnouts.

Oh yeah, I just got this little B&M line lock from Jegs and a hurst line kit to put it in. Another Sunday project for me.

In the case that it were a manual trans, use 2nd gear. It will give you more wheel speed.
Has anyone ever tried 3rd gear?

The rear line loc is for keeping pressure from the rears.

Close the solenoid... drop your clutch, then get on the brake. Use the brake pedal to control your front brakes and rolling burnout.

Basically the same as a regular burnout without using up the rear brakes.

I don't see how burnouts are real hard on parts. I think traction is much more harmful.

Heck, I couldn't even light em up in 2nd. 3rd would take a helluva motor, and a sticky clutch.

My line lock button is on my shifter (A4)...I do have a master toggle switch, as well, to turn the system on/off...it's mounted up under the dash...don't want it armed during normal driving, just in case...

The line lock will save your rear brakes. Depending on how long you have to spin, I've seen cars catch on fire during burnout contests.

If you got a good smoke show going and all of a suden the crowd starts to go really wold, stop!
That means something is wrong and they want to see your car blowup or catch on fire. I've seen too many times.

Some contests run 30 seconds(the one I run), some are a minute(really close to the danger zone) and unlimited where if you don't care about the car, go for it.

You want to be able to get home don't you?

Hit your brakes, hold the line lock button down, then you can rev it up ,let off the brakes and dump the clutch. When you want to move, simply let off the button. Had a 68 SS Chevelle with a line lock. Tires never lasted long on that one!

Aren't line locks bad for the master cylinder?

Since it just a burnout contest, if they have water or will let you use it, do so, to get them spinning easier. Brake pedal to the floor and start to bring the rrr's up let off the brake til they start spinning, then apply brake and gas pedal and let her rip. Go until they stop you, no fear for the old rubber.
