Sad story and I now need help. My friend Brad from Washington State was killed last week while working on his tractor landscaping the property at their new home he & his wife had just built. He was a member of the forum mainly on the C3.
Anyway his wife has an 87 and somehow she or one of the family got the ignition key stuck halfway in. Anyway it ended up that they could only get the key in 3/4 of the way, I have now managed to get the key all the way in and it turns as if to start the engine (we have full voltage) but it will not turn over. I think the problem is the VATS but need some help in diagnosing the problem and how to go about fixing it.
Hopefully someone else will chime in, but I will make a few suggestions, I would suspect that the part in the ignition switch that reads the electrical part of the key has been damaged or it could be the key itself. Try a different key and see if that works. I know that vats can be disabled in the programming so possibably you could get a chip programmed to do just that. My one other suggestion is post this in the c-4 tech section, you might get more response from over there. Good luck getting it started and I am sorry to hear about your friend.
One more suggestion, If you cant figure it out, see how close TJWONG is to your location. He has got to be one of the smartest people to ever touch a c-4 and one of the most helpful. His shop is in washington state I believe. Just look at a few of the post in this section and you can find a link to him.
